Cardinals RB Andre Ellington having an MRI after aggravating foot injury

Andre Ellington was supposed to be a breakout player this year, an exciting running back in line for more carries after Rashard Mendenhall retired. If you have him on your fantasy team, you probably used a very high pick to get him.

Well, before the season even got kicked off for the Arizona Cardinals, that hype train might be derailed a bit.

Ellington is having an MRI on his left foot after aggravating it in practice on Thursday, Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 in Phoenix said. Jurecki said Ellington could miss an "extended period of time."

The Cardinals don't have a lot in reserve at running back (one could say they didn't have a lot with Mendenhall last year either, but they wasted 217 carries on him). Former Steelers disappointment Jonathan Dwyer is probably next in line if Ellington misses time. Stepfan Taylor, a 2013 fifth-round pick with 36 career carries, would also be in the mix.

The Cardinals would probably just rely more heavily on mistake-prone quarterback Carson Palmer as long as Ellington is out, and we'll see how that goes. Hopefully Ellington's injury isn't as bad as feared. A lot of people are holding their breath, waiting to find out.
