It was only two weeks ago on this very blog that we highlighted an amazing stick save by Swedish Hockey League goalie Bernhard Starkbaum. The Brynas keeper didn’t have the best season opener, but his stop on Frolunda’s Anton Axelsson was one to remember:
That'll get the 'ol confidence up, for sure.
Fast forward to Friday evening, and while the hockey gods can sometimes give you a hand, they can also quickly make you look the fool. Tending net against Skelleftea, Starkbaum allowed a goal from center that that he soon won’t forget:
Usually we see these long-range goals go cleanly in the net or take a bounce and roll over the goalie’s pad or glove. Not so in this case. Poor Starkbaum thought he had it under control, but ended up putting the puck into his net trying to freeze it during a 4-1 loss.

Niclas Burstrom will never score an easier goal again.
