Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's march toward breaking Brett Favre's career touchdown record hasn't received a ton of attention, but it's coming up fast.
Manning reached a huge milestone on the way to passing Favre by becoming the second quarterback in NFL history to throw his 500th touchdown pass. Favre has 508 career touchdowns.
Manning's 500th came on a very nicely placed ball, which shouldn't come as a surprise. We've seen plenty of those from him. Tight end Julius Thomas was running down the goal line on an out route, and Manning led him perfectly. The pass was just out of the reach of Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson, and Thomas hauled it in for the historic 7-yard score.
There was very little ceremony for such an impressive milestone, because this is the NFL and not baseball, which celebrates such things in a more grandiose way. Manning gave a quick fist pump and went to congratulate Thomas for the score, and that was basically that.
There might be a little more celebration when Manning gets his 509th career touchdown to pass Favre, and the way the 2013 NFL MVP is playing, that record-breaker might not be too far off.
