Deion Sanders would probably take credit for the Herschel Walker trade and inventing the Dallas Cowboys' famous star on their helmet if you asked him, so take his latest claim at face value.
But he says that in 1998, he told the Cowboys they needed to draft a receiver out of Marshall named Randy Moss. Moss had found himself in trouble before, unable to play at Notre Dame and Florida State as a result of legal trouble (as chronicled by the excellent ESPN Films documentary "Rand University" that premiered on Tuesday night), so the Cowboys passed.
Moss confirmed that Sanders might not be exaggerating. In the documentary, he talks about being optimistic that the Cowboys would draft him eighth overall.

"Jerry Jones pulled me to the side and he's like, 'There's going to be a limosuine here to pick you up; Deion Sanders is going to holler at you,'" Moss said on "Rand University." "It gave me a lot of confidence I was going to be a Cowboy."
The Cowboys drafted defensive end Greg Ellis with the eighth pick.
"Now I'm depressed, I'm hurt," Moss said.
Moss, a Heisman Trophy finalist who set college football on fire, was taken 21st by the Minnesota Vikings. He had one of the greatest rookie seasons of all time, the Vikings went 15-1 and lost in overtime of the NFC championship game. One of his signature games that year was torching the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The Cowboys lost their first playoff game that season, and have only won one playoff game since then. Ellis was a good player for the Cowboys, with 77 sacks and a Pro Bowl in 11 Cowboys seasons. However, it's possible an all-time great like Moss could have extended their dynasty.
Deion knew what he was talking about.
