Steven Jackson launches funny 'Save the Running Back' campaign (Video)

Running backs just aren’t valued in the NFL like they used to be. Following his release from the Atlanta Falcons, three-time pro-bowler Steven Jackson is out to change that.

Jackson, who currently sits at 16th all-time in rushing yards, launched a hilarious “Save the Running Back” campaign where he pleads to save the every-down running back. Here, I’ll let Jackson explain what it's all about:

The Save the Running Back website even encourages you to write to your favorite team and spread the message:

Dear Team Representative,

I am writing you on behalf of SaveTheRunningBack.org, an organization founded by Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson, to express my dissatisfaction with the way that running backs are being treated in professional football today.

Running backs aren't all the same. They're not interchangeable. I yearn for the days of yesteryear, when players like Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Emmitt Smith were allowed to run free. The NFL was built on the carries of men like them.

Please value the running back position in the way that it was meant to be valued. Because when we do, everybody wins. Learn more at http://ift.tt/1NB1Gss.

You can also purchase official Save the Running Back gear. Proceeds from each purchase go to the Steven Jackson Foundation, which, according to its website, is dedicated to “promoting strong educational values and healthy living among today’s youth.”

Overall, it’s a funny way for Jackson to get his name and foundation out there while he searches for a new team to play for in 2015. The 31-year-old Jackson ran for 707 yards for the Falcons in 2014, the third-lowest total in his 11-year career.
