Lee Westwood and Jamie Donaldson were susceptible to a letdown after losing their Saturday morning fourball match against Hunter Mahan and Jim Furyk. But they drew two players who were yet to score a point in this Ryder Cup in Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar.
The match went back and forth early, with the teams all square through eight holes. However, the Europeans landed wins to straddle the middle of the round. A critical birdie on the par-5 16th put the Europeans dormie with two to play. Assured of a point, their par on the penultimate hole on the course locked up the match.
Westwood and Donaldson locked up a big point after the European side came into the session with just a one-point lead.
Meanwhile, Kuchar and Johnson both went winless in five combined two-man matches in this Ryder Cup.
